If AA says that, they're nuts.

Nothing 'causes' anyone to drink or to abuse drugs.  There are any number of reasons a 
person may give as a COP OUT for becoming
addicted, but it still comes down to the person's choice.  I suspect your friend would 
have become an alcoholic even if she'd never
had an abortion, the abortion is her convenient 'justification' for her decision to 
abuse alcohol.
