Some comments.
Unrestricted mass democracy can be as dangerous, bloody and
evil as any tyrannical dictatorship. Democracy has been defined as
3 wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.
I agree that the "real power" in the world's democratic states are the
hidden elite who own the politicopaths who serve their interest.
In any system you will ALWAYS have an elite who due to personality
disorders have an obsessive need for power and wealth. The only way
to minimize the effect of the Power Elite is to minimize the power of
government over its citizens.
A casual study of American History clearly demonstrates that the Power
Elite depend on Government to further their interests. From the early Land
Speculators, to the
Railroad Magnates to the Corporate Robber Barons - all
needed the power of government in order to thrive. In that way they operate
very much like the Power Elite of of all political systems, whether they be "the
Nobility"; the
"Monarchists"; the"Capitalists" or the "Socialists."
If you want to stop the Government Bulldozer from smashing down the
peaceful villiage and rolling over the inhabitants, smash the engine.
Then the driver of the dozer will sit in frustrated, helpless fury while the
people point and laugh.
