While not exactly an "Elite" there will always be those whose word is
sought and those whose word is disregarded. This is a function of human
nature, and as such, can not be ignored. In EVERY culture, social group,
etc there IS a hierarchy. The objective is to make sure that this
hierarchy has little actual control other than persuasion by example.

Yes, this is a truism that many ignore. The POWER over their individual
lives should always be in the hands of the people themselves as
individuals. Their actions are always subject to the judgement of those
around them. The original intent of the U.S. Constitution is readily
apparant to those who take the time to read it. The problems arise when
various people INTERPRET those words (usually to benefit themselves).
Devining "what the framers actually meant" is like reading the future in
chicken entrails. We have to assume that the framers meant what they
said when they wrote it and go on from there.

Take this down to the local level. Where the rubber meets the road, the
Police/District Attorney/Court system are the enforcers of Corporate
will. This is where the real fight must be. To make the main battle one
of "Changing the Law" is, in general, a study in futility. Change will
only happen when enough people ignore the "LAW" and just take back
control of their lives. This is a growning movement in this country.
There are already over 2 million people in our jails; a majority are
there for nonviolent "crimes" like prostitution, drug possession,
trespassing, and civil disobedience. They can't lock us all up. We are
neither strong nor numerous enough to attack the head, but we can surely
undermine the base. 99.8% of us are perfectly capable of running our own
lives while maintaining good relations with our neighbors. That is
freedom as the Constitution defines it. Those who make life choices that
conflict with their neighbors can be dealt with by their neighbors. Most
often, a little corrective action by neighbors can work better than any
Police/District Attorney/ Court. This makes for a very diverse country
where anyone can find their place. This also makes Capitalism redundant.
