Well, in Panama City, Florida in l959 or l960, my dentist (a local) informed
me very seriously that "Negros did not have souls." He was a Southern
Baptist and of course a college grad. He was even a fair dentist. I have no
reason to believe that this man or his friends and relatives have had a
change of heart. The Supreme Court laid groundwork some months back to allow
the states to bring back all those lovely Jim Crow laws. Now that the same
court has appointed the president, perhaps this l idea will again become the
basis for a movement to return the South to its pristine white ideology.
Republicans are very interesting people. Perhaps they will decide that
Republicans who are black have just a tiny bit of soul. Prudy
