SAC hasn't been around for about ten or so years. Except as a Rock
Hudson movie. And anyway, they wouldn't have been the ones to effect
a response. Even with Rock.

It's interesting to note that after the fact there are all kinds of
ways to solve the problems. The fact remains that the elements of
surprise, fear, and panic worked for the hijackers. The military
looks outward with the civilian authorities taking responsibility for
inside the borders. I think this has something to do with posse
comitatus (sp?).

Looking at the percentages, two or four aeroplanes out of how many
since the last hijacking isn't too bad. I prefer to point the
fingers at the INS and the local / national police forces who failed
to screen out some of the folks. Maybe we need citizens guardians
for visa holders.

Then again it comes down to Straw Man rationale, pointing in the
directions of others when the responsibility for individual safety
rests with the individual. We as a nation are too willing to allow
the police or the military solve all the problems and sit back
assigning blame. Perhaps the jet that fell short of whatever its
intended destination proves that some concerned citizens may have
caused its "shortfall". Re-empower the citizens and then see what
doesn't happen.

At this point, ignorance is no longer bliss. We need to no longer
depend solely on the government to be the babysitter for our lives.
A few simple martial arts moves by one steward/ess or pilot may have
made all the difference. Note that they found some martial arts
books in one of the hijackers' lodgings.
