-Caveat Lector- The way the plane may have been taken down could have been similar to the method that may have also been used with the plane Ron Brown was traveling in. Both planes were flying in instrument flight rules (IFR) conditions and completely dependent on the glideslope signal for the approach to the runway. If the real glideslope transmitter was turned off and a bogus one was turned on at a different location, the plane would have headed to the point where this bogus transmitter was located.
The Wellstone plane was traveling perpendicular to the runway when it was observed by a witness as being very low for an approach. It crashed shortly thereafter. It appears that the pilot thought that he was on a final approach to the airport and cut turned down the throttle somewhat at that point which is normal when the plane flies over the threshold of the runway and the pilot expects to land in a few seconds.
