The reason I recommend 'cp' rather than 'ln' is that, from past experience, if xmkmf fails and I have to edit Imakefile.local, it can be important to keep the template separate for easy recovery from erroneous edits -- though it remains available in the tar file, so perhaps that's neurotic or paranoid on my part?
