Well, for me Monotone was a bit of an outlier of the version control
systems, since I only used it for ctwm. So in theory replacing it with
some other system which I use for nothing else is not worse. As long as
it has a visualisation program to keep overview over the development
graph.

Having said that, I have occasionally used mercurial (hg) (for checking
out Vim sources) but I don't know if there is such a visualisation for
it (which can be practically built on NetBSD).

I'm not opposed to git, even if its design criteria are "do everything
the opposite way of cvs". I do use it for other stuff as well.

I don't know if this is really helpful in choosing :-) As long as there
is something that can still be used for development, however seldom it
may be, I'm happy, I think.
