Thanks for the rapid response.  I'll go away and try it again.  It may have 
been that I wasn't holding the shift key down or (more likely) that I didn't 
select the first piece in the group.

By the way, you'll see that Joel also replied and suggested a very neat 
approach to delivering the primary functionality I was trying to set up(of 
drawing out "n" random pieces from a stack).  But your answer moves me on too 
so thanks again.  Good gaming.
