One of the fair criticisms of Parish Councils is that Councillors are
not elected by the population of the Parish. (That said, generally the
best way to get yourself invited onto the Parish Council is to show
yourself willing to do a bit of work.)

Well, here in deepest Norfolk perhaps we have a more egalitarian spirit, but
we sure as blazes vote for ours. My mate Nigel, whose farm I shoot over, is
chairman and I always vote for him (the two facts are of course unrelated).
