I headed up to Pilot Mtn Sunday from Greensboro for a solo ride.  Parked at
BB&T on main street and headed out for the hills.  Roads where good with very
little traffic...I was almost 13 miles in before I had even one car past me.  I
noticed right from the start that the wind was blowing a little harder then I
thought it was going to be.  This made for some very interesting/uncomfy down
hills.  The route I found on mapmyride was great.  At some point the route was
used for a ride/race because there was painted signed/directions on the roads
so it was pretty easy to follow.  As I made my way through/over the hills I
found myself not even thinking about how much I was having to work because the
area was so beautiful…that is until I got to the park. Oh boy……at mile 39 I
entered the park and for the next 2+miles I used all my gears and was out of
the saddle for most of it.  Not since BSG have I worked this hard, but I made
it to the
top.  I decided to take a few min at the top to enjoy the view.  A guy came up
to me and said “hey I passed you riding up that hill, did you make it all the
way without having to walk?” Yes. He said “dude you’re nuts” I just laughed.
Heading back down was not as much fun as I thought it was going to be…I did not
peddle once and hardly took my hands off the brakes….
Bob L, Ronnie, Turbo Dan, Chris H, Wally, Dale, and I did the whrili gig 32
miles, lots of wind to start.  Saw little Wally coming in solo from some secret
training.
Bob wanted a B ride, the group stayed together until Wiggins mill Rd when Dan
dropped the hammer. Bob and I did the B ride and finished first in the master's
division. Turbo and Wally battled for the clydesdale division, while the rest
for the gc.  Chris has been doing some secret training as he had some monster
efforts and showed no I'll effects.
Bob and I averaged 19.5 in spite of the wind, I'm sure the A group we're over
20.
Great ride.
