I'm not sure if it's any trouble at all. Converting cython-devel to a git repository on github took me about 15 minutes from I hit Google. https://github.com/dagss/cython It's just for testing, but you can perhaps see if hg-git allows you to completely transparently use the repo in the way you are used to, with hg: http://hg-git.github.com/ The conversion tool (hg-fast-export) has a few options that I didn't read up on.
