A reflection on today's Scripture:

Most everyone enjoys receiving a gift!

The readings for today focus on our inheritance.

Generally an inheritance is received because of entitlement, something
almost due to us because of a blood relationship or as a reward for a
good act. None of the above are so when we consider the inheritance
possible for us as Christians. This is total gift!

First, we can claim no natural entitlement. We have been chosen by God
and graced with the opportunity of rebirth by way of the sacraments,
especially Baptism, Penance, and Confirmation. Secondly, knowing our
fallen nature, Christ paid for our claim with His very blood. Thirdly,
He has gone to prepare a place for each of us and sent the Holy Spirit
to assist us.

Christ warns of threats to this claim of inheritance, but says not to be
afraid; his gift of faith is enough if we guard this treasure. Like any
special treasure our faith needs nourishment, and protection. We are all
familiar with nourishing, washing, and polishing our finest
treasures.... so, what better way to strengthen our faith than through
frequenting the sacraments, ongoing education and prayer. Oddly enough,
our faith usually grows the most when we share it with others!

Let us look forward to the enjoyment of our inheritance.....
our treasured gift for all eternity!
