The Twenty-Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Ephesians 3:14-21
Psalm 33:1-2,4-5,11-12,18-19
Luke 12:49-53
A reflection on today's Scripture:
God's word today reveals both our joy and our sadness as we seek our
mission to follow HIM. When we look back at our roots and find
faith-filled love, we try to continue to do what is right and just,
realizing that their may be conflict, division and rejection in our
lives.
Our beloved apostle St. Paul once again tells the Ephesians who Jesus
is and the power at work in each of us who believe. Even though we are
disappointed about earthly matters, we can only rely on that power
because it was planted in love deep in our hearts and built on the
love that Jesus has for each of us. Today we saw the sunrise, we arose
and went about our daily work.
"This will be the main purpose of all that comes my way as work: to
love Jesus, to speak of Jesus and to make Jesus known." (St. Francis
Xavier Cabrini, Missionary to the Americas).
In the Gospel, Luke wants us to know that the Lord spoke of what was
to happen to Him. He is telling us that Jesus is impatient and wants
to get on with His mission. The commandment to love our neighbor as
ourselves applies to our daily lives. Must we divide our family when
the people we are related to are not following the love demonstrated
by the Crucified Christ? Are we dividing our family because of our
silence to matters that should be discussed, but are not spoken? The
way to make Jesus known is by our own example.
Lead us Lord
to a greater effort to fill us with your Grace,
your love and your Wisdom. Amen!
