A reflection on today's Scripture:
O Lord, save us!
This was Peter's cry in the raging storm on the sea as he and the
disciples appeared to be sinking. Today we celebrate the Dedication
of the churches of Peter and Paul the apostles. This graphic boat
and storm scene in today's Gospel is an appropriate comparison to the
Church. The boat represents the vessel that safely carries us on our
way to salvation. The storm is the world, the flesh and the devil,
the elements which assail those who strive to live a life of
holiness.
Here in America, we are now in a furious raging storm between two
opposing forces: the Culture of Life and the Culture of Death. While
one candidate for President has promised to uphold the life of the
unborn and the elderly, we regret that the other candidate has
completely and steadfastly called for the Culture of death: death to
the unborn and much more. This manifesto will include appointing as
many as five Supreme Court judges over the next few years. Now, at
the moment, our sacrosanct election process is being perverted by the
bias and prejudice of the supporters of the Culture of Death.
Now you see the Gospel allegory: the Boat is the Church, and the
Storm is the Culture of death. As this incredible battle continues in
it's fury, I ask that you join the forces of good, the "Culture of
Life", by devoutly praying the Rosary or whatever prayers you wish,
for the deliverance of this graced but weakened nation from the evil
forces that desire to prevail.
O Lord, save us!
