A reflection on today's Scripture:

Today's Gospel shows how much Jesus loved the poor and the
downtrodden. What a contrast to the world of our day, in which the
weak are oppressed and bullied by those who possess material or
political strength. The examples are endless: the unborn, the
malformed from birth, those with infirmities, the elderly, the poor,
refugees, the unemployed. While most governments make a pretense of
caring for the poor and the oppressed, the reality is not to care but
often to exploit.

The faithful follower of Christ has a great duty to care for those who
need a helping hand. He doesn't need to look for these occasions,
because such opportunities will always present themselves in many
seemingly-hidden circumstances throughout his ordinary day. It's more
a matter of reminding himself to be aware of others, to be less
focused upon himself.

A special time for the sincere American to help the oppressed will
occur this coming election day. He must make an effort to be informed;
not by the bias of a liberal media and it's untruthful commercials,
but by careful examination of each candidate's record as reported by
the non-mainstream media. In every election, every vote counts. Make
your vote count for Christ, for that which seeks good and shuns evil.
