A reflection on today's Scripture:

Today's first reading is from the Book of Revelation. For most of us, its
symbolism is mysterious and even somewhat unimaginable. In spite of this
there are words and meanings that are clear - unambiguous - totally
understandable. It is perhaps this contrast that makes what we understand so
powerful and meaningful.

A jeweled throne, gold-crowned elders, flashing lightning, pealing thunder,
flaming torches, a floor like a sea of crystal-clear glass, four living
creatures covered with eyes front and back - one like a lion, one like an
ox, the third with the face of a man, the fourth like a flying eagle, and in
the midst of this spectacular scene the words which are so familiar and dear
to us ring out constantly. Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty!

Scripture tells us that God has given us the wisdom to understand fully the
mystery. In spite of our human limitations we understand that God is the
Almighty, the One who is holy and deserving of all our praise and worship.

Let us thank the God of all goodness who has revealed to us His splendor,
His might and has with inexplicable love shared His very self with us who
are so lowly and undeserving. May the raising of our voices and our hearts
truly join and echo the unceasing praise of heaven.

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord!
