A reflection on today's Scripture:
Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of All Saints. It is a very
special day, a day of particular blessing. It isn't difficult to name
more than just a few saints and even to speak something about their
lives. Some were martyrs who shed their blood giving witness to the
truth while others lived what St. Theresa of Jesus called "the long
martyrdom"; that is, humble =daily= obedience to the will of God.
How good it is that Christ, through the ministry of His beloved
Church, venerates the lives of the saints. It allows us who are
currently struggling with the opportunity to learn what real flesh and
blood people did in their determination to seek and serve the God of
truth and glory.
Through their intercession may each one of us find a particular saint
to be our heavenly companion. May they speak personally to our hearts
that we might be inspired to examine their life and their teaching and
so imitate them, by living heroically as they did - faith, hope and
love.

"O blest communion fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one in thee for all are thine:
Alleluia, alleluia!
