A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
In the small introduction to the Vatican II Weekday Missal for
today's readings, we are encouraged to consider what Christ's birth
means to us. Dwelling on the Incarnation is a wonderful and necessary
activity. All too quickly it seems we have gone onto other things as
if Christmas really was =only= a holiday. How good that we are called
to return to the Christmas Cave, to ponder the meaning of that
silent, most holy night.
Go back then and be washed anew by the light of the rising star, hear
again the sound of angel choirs, kneel once more like a lowly
shepherd and be overcome with awe by the love radiating from that
humble manger scene.
When you must leave, take the lovely things you have seen and felt
along with you. Then when life gets crazy and seemingly pointless,
slip away and go back to the holy crib where the Savior was born, for
you.
Joy to the world,
the Lord has come!
