A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
Today's reading leaves us a choice between love and hate. If we
choose love and follow the examples Christ taught us, then we choose
life eternal. Merely talking about love isn't enough; our actions
must avoid hatred of one another as well. As Jesus ended His life on
the cross, we must also lay down our lives for one another.
Neglecting our brothers and immersing ourselves in the greed and
avarice of life, defeats the whole purpose of God's gift to us: Jesus
Christ.
To fulfill the commandments, then, is to love one's neighbor; doing
that, we are loving God. For God is always greater than our hearts;
our consciences are to be clean and to be at peace with God.
As the culmination of the Christmas season nears, may the love of
Christ instill in us goodness, mercy and charity in our hearts. May
joy and peace reign throughout, and may Christ's message of love ring
loud and clear always.
