I had a strange feeling that if you looked hard enough you would find
something else dead in that clearing.
Please ask the dog what caused him to stay there? It may be more
important than you realize.....
They ALWAYS have a reason for acting out of the ordinary!

After reading the rest of the story... I would say that maybe someone or
something died in the bathroom and is buried in the clearing.
