I personally would like having rating visible at all time in LR mode, since LR is about quickly looking at many images it makes sense to display information that is needed to quickly skim through images and I personally think that cluttering the thumbnail is OK in that case since in LR the rating is more usefull than the fine details of the image
However IIRC all major devs don't agree on that.
