Yes, possibly it will, but I suspect I have the answer now - see answers to

Yes, and I think I have found the problem - the default setting on the export 
module appears to be "latex book template", and SalixOS does not install LaTex, 
tetex or texlive by default :-(   Not using the "primary e" command, but going 
through the export module and setting the output to "file on disk" allowed the 
"primary e" key combination to work.

I want to thank you for your help -  you really did point me in the direction 
of what I was doing wrong, and after many hours of going round in circles your 
post was all I needed :-)
