I would say DAM features are more important, and probably more widely needed, than a server/client structure. But yeah, until there is somebody interested enough to propose a specification, interact with the user community to refine it and get support for it, the chances are very slim in both cases. These are features that need a lot of work to code and maintain them, and without a clear objective to follow they won't likely happen any time soon.
