Hi Hieke,
I am using DT on Windows 10 and the crop function is working fine for
me. Sorry I cannot replicate your problem. I wonder if anyone else is having
the problem with the windows build. BTW, DT is a great program for editing and
is worth the effort to learn.
I wonder if reinstalling DT might resolve the issue. That would seem a
sledgehammer approach, but if no one else can give a solution it might be worth
trying.

Subject: [darktable-user] Crop isn't being saved and other crop bugs
Hey there,
I have a question / bug report for Windows 10, dt version 3.2.1.
So... I just got darktable after reading a lot of positive reviews and
comparisons. I started yesterday and I was happy with it (rating, view only X
stars in the viewport etc.), until my first real editing started. My first step
is always the cropping. (BTW: I have loads of experience with several editors
for both photos and films, I use Photoshop Elements for almost 15 years now,
alongside other editors. I also developed websites, so I’m quite computer
savvy. I’m not a programmer though.)
So here’s the issue. MAIN PROBLEM: the crop function behaves differently every
time. (I read the manual on this, but it doesn’t help.)
When cropping an image, several problems occur:
1. no cropping grid/handles are being shown
2. automatic crop yes/no doesn't accept no as an answer
3. the chosen grid (in my case: rule of thirds) doesn't show
The software isn't stable. When I retry, it's always different: sometimes the
rule of thirds shows up, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I can crop and it's
being saved (after waiting several minutes) but most of the time the crop isn't
applied. It shows in the history stack though...
Most of the time I get the grid and handles to be shown when I go to Lighttable
> back to Darkroom > select square > select freehand. Then I can finally do
what I want, but nothing is being saved.
I tried several times on the same photo. And on others too.
Is there anything I can do to make it work? Looking into other functions and
learning DT doesn’t make sense to me if I can’t crop firrst… I really hope you
can help me out! I started a thread on it on Github too:
https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/issues/6448<https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/issues/6448>.
I thought that was the forum for DT (but I guess I’m wrong).
Thanks in advance!
Hieke
