I find that if I need to denoise and/or sharpen, I'll get great results by using Topaz DeNoise AI followed by Topaz Sharpen AI before pulling the results into darktable for final finish work.

I developed a raw image (DSC00662.ARW) taken with my sony a6600 with both DT and RT using minimal intervention (see attached DT xmp file and RT pp3 file). As you can see from the details I enclosed in this message the RT resulting image looks by far better in terms of sharpness with respect to the  DT one.

Why is that and is there anything I can do to improve DT performance as far as sharpness is concerned?

I have always had the same problem.

And now rawtherapee supports capture sharpening, or Art rl deconvolution, with bigger radius of sharpening near the borders, making the gap even stronger, and dual demosaicing. I hope these features will come to darktable!

In your edited image i see that the raw therapee one has less noise and more sharpness.

Bye!
