Hi, just to summarize again: we do not intend to provide any sync mechanisms to other softwares. We have both XMP sidecar files that are written according to Adobe's specification and a easily accessible SQLite database with all information redundantly.
Choose either way and write a script that does what you want. I know of users that used 5 lines of bash to convert their tags and keywords to be usable with Bibble e.g. (check the bug tracker for that script, should be somewhere there). What else is needed? backup? You already have it right with your files as XMPs. If you want more, copy the .config/darktable folder with its settings files and the database.
