The base curve summarizes sensor response, gamma and vendor/camera
adjustments and provides you an image similar to the standard OOC JPEGs
without any special "style" (vivid, landscape etc.) applied.

Despite the fact you do not want linear image data, you can not get
linear data because you can not isolate the sensor response curve
