Hi all,
I'm seeing what I consider somewhat strange behaviour around thumbnails.
I have a couple of fairly big collections I spend a lot of time browsing
through when working on my art - the biggest is almost 8000 images. When I
start darktable, *some* of these images will have thumbnails that show up
instantly - but a lot of them will start out as just grey boxes that fill
in over time --- seems to take about 0.2 seconds per image - I normally
have a grid of about 150 images visible (on a 30" monitor), and it takes
about 30s for all of the thumbnails to populate...
I could live with the 0.2 seconds per thumbnail if it was just once per
image - but it isn't... If I browse for a bit and then stop and restart
darktable, most of the images will again show up without a thumbnail and
I'll be back to waiting 0.2 seconds per image...
I don't understand why some thumbs show up instantly after a restart, but
the majority have this delay...
This makes quickly browsing through a large collection very painful...
Is there anything I can do to get the thumbs to be saved from session to
session, so they'll all load quickly?
Thanks!!
Warren
