Coupled means = no change, which means camera white balance.

UFRaw has a sample absolute implementation of absolute white balance,
as I earlier mentioned, but I vaguely recall there were some issues
with porting that.

So the problem isn't conceptual, it's about work getting done (and
thus about priorities)...
