Sure, darktable can make your CPU glow in the dark, no cycle gets wasted. 
However, I am no big expert on current CPU models.

That being said, if I had to decide if I wanted to spend 370 bucks on a better 
CPU or on some other photo gear, I would opt for the latter. Maybe put the 
money aside to get a new lens some day. However, if you can spend the money on 
a bigger L3 cache and faster clock without crying in the night I would do it.

Tobias, who prefers crying once when paying the bill over crying every time he 
uses something that was cheap. Been there, done that ...
