Large slow energy efficient disks are extremely useful for storing the main
bulk of images I find, and slow is relative, even my 5400rpm disks in a NAS
across an (admittedly fast) network can write images out vastly faster than
darktable can do the processing to produce that export file. Using a faster
disk here really won't buy all that much.

Where disk speed does give a real benefit is for temporary cache files and
anything doing random access such as the sql database. For that sort of stuff
the faster the device the better - and SSD is king.

Subject: Re: [Darktable-users] Difference between i7 processors for Darktable

Luis,

I was once advised by a previous boss to always buy the machine with the best
performance you can afford!

Is there any choice in disk speed? I would avoid 5400rpm disks (are they still
sold, I'm not sure). I would think that would have an effect, especially if you
are exporting a large number of images.

Regards,
Tony.
