I see others have questioned `EttL' given that EttR is the more common
strategy for reasons of image quality. Whichever way you do it, however,
it still leaves the offset to be applied. Notably the EXIF is
complicated by what mode the camera was in at the time - by definition,
Manual mode has no compensation, merely a difference of opinion between
what you specified and what the camera thought of the settings.

IME the exposure module is not the easiest/best way to go about fixing
this; if you save a preset then it doesn't seem to remember that you
pushed the `auto' checkbox so much as what the results of doing so were.

How about you have a look at the global tonemapping module instead,
particularly Drago with target=100. Make that the first tonal change you
make and see what happens.
