Ack, I will try to come up with some ideas how to solve that in a way that 
makes most sense.

There had been some work to improve styles and also to create a server side 
gallery to collect, browse and download them. Hierarchical styles had been 
mentioned in that context, too. No idea what happened to that work though.

Without having tried it: create a style that only has "watermark" in the "off" 
state and try to apply that during export. It _should_ disable that module.
