I have the same issue with Nikon D300s. Worked fine until a few month ago
(not shure if it correlate with a dt relase change)
"gphoto2 --port usb: --capture-image-and-download"
works fine
$ darktable -d camctl
[camera_control] creating new context 0x11f6500
[camera_control] loaded 1828 camera drivers.
[camera_control] registering listener 0x1873240
output is seen on start up. after switch to tethering no more output is
seen. only message in dt "no camera availible"
