How did you try to go to tethering mode? Probably by hitting 't' on the keyboard or by using the view switcher in the top right corner. In general that is fine and the intended way to do it, however with the 1.6 series somehow an ugly thing was introduced (I fixed it for the upcoming 2.0 already but it's not easy to backport) that requires you to click on the "scan for devices" button in the "import" module (left side, top) at least once for darktable to actually look for connected cameras. That was done to prevent gphoto trying to connect to phones using the USB port to charge which made darktable hang for a minute or so when starting until that connection attempt timed out. TL;DR: click on that button and tethering might work again. This will be fixed once our development version gets released. > best regards, > bernhard Tobias [...]
