Luis, I forgot to mention before that I already had some troubles installing do_mysql in the first place. I read somewhere that the gem install command needs the --with-mysql-config option and then it worked fine. Here are the steps you requested, I dunno if that output is of great help though?
http://pastie.org/349427 Concerning ruby 1.8.7 .. I noticed that too, and wasn't feeling to good about it. The thing is, that I remember that when leopard came out, I heard that the shipped ruby was broken and that a macports install would be a better option. Now I did that without thinking too much about it, and that's how I got 1.8.7. I heard people say before that it's working fine for them though, so I'll try to leave it for now (it's only my dev box, production hasn't changed anyway). Michael, That's encouraging!
