I realized that in fact formats has exactly the same problem as format, in that it can read (incorrectly) as a verb, so it really offers no benefit. It does, however, have the negative aspect of adding plurals to class names, something else I dislike. And much as I'd like everything to be perfect, I don't want to halt important pieces of development while waiting for the perfect module name. Unfortunately, CVS (and CPAN, after a few releases) makes renaming painful, so the initial names are likely to stick.
