There's two schools of thought on this, I once read: keep generated files in CVS, or don't keep them in CVS. It boiled down to this: unless you're 237% sure that the release packager knows his autotools well enough to always produce a proper set for the release package, keep them in CVS. This allows everyone to see the autotools that will end up in a release and to make sure that they work. It's an annoyance when mucking with the autotools, but you should only be doing that on rare occassion anyways. It's along the same lines as keeping the C files from lex and yacc in CVS. Usually that's a good idea, because you only want people who are playing with the grammar to be regenerating the lexer and parser output. Have I given myself away as a supporter of autostuff-in-CVS yet? ;-) In any event, I'll defer to Paul for CVS-HEAD, since it's both in heavy development and under his direction at the moment. Aaron
