If you have a very slow storage backend (NFS?) it might be useful to set
mysql's thread concurrency to 1 to avoid lock contention on the storage.
I used this in the past when I had to run a 30GB dbmail store on a AOE
backed VPS with 1 cpu and very limited ram. Helped a *lot*.
Not you're average production mode setup though.
