Benedictines Praying for Inmates Facing Death

A network of prayer is under way in all Benedictine monasteries worldwide
for prisoners condemned to death.

Uniting themselves to the campaign "Cities for Life -- Cities Against the
Death Penalty," promoted by the lay Community of Sant'Egidio, 339
Benedictine monasteries and 60 Benedictine convents are each "adopting" in
their prayer one prisoner facing capital punishment.

The Sant'Egidio Community in 2002 launched its 1st International Day of
Cities Against the Death Penalty.

Today, more than 300 cities worldwide joined Rome in saying "no" to the
death penalty, by promoting a series of activities and illuminating
symbolic monuments.
