Hi Andreas, Yes, I considered your suggestions. Adding a warning wasn't feasible. I actually did update the documentation (the only place this is really documented is in FAQ 14):
https://exiftool.org/faq.html#Q14 But I was thinking that this wasn't sufficient, and could see this problem coming up again. Plus, as you found out it isn't 100% backward compatible (although all of the pre-existing examples work fine because they all write the reference directions after the coordinates). - Phil
