Package: cupsys Version: 1.2.7-4etch1
I have some network printers that i use with IPP that after upgrading from sarge to etch start making some trouble. Simply, expecially on monday morning, the CUPS queue was in 'stop' state (also sarge expect this trouble, but on a yearly/monthly frequency and not on weekly/daily one). Reading around about trouble like that, someone point me to the 'beh' backend available in foomatic-filters package. After some experimentation i've found that beh works flawlessy on parallel and socket backend, but there's no way to make it work on ipp backend (and i need that!). After some weeks of woodoo rituals, human sacrifice and repetitive hit of my head on the wall, i finally found the trouble: the backend binary ipp/http and lpr on /usr/lib/cups/backend directory have 700 permission. Probably executed directly works, but i've verified that the 'beh' backend are executed with 'lp' user and so they have no access anymore to that backends. A simply: cd /usr/lib/cups/backend chmod 755 ipp http lpr fix all the trouble. FYI. -- dott.
