Just to be clear: 'local changes' above should be read as 'manual changes to /etc/mxallowd.conf'. One more problem is that the package both ships /etc/mxallowd.conf as a dpkg conffile and modifies it with maintainer scripts. This is explicitly forbidden by the policy, see section 10.7.3. Michael, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. As a compensation, I've got a proposed patch almost ready and will send it hopefully tonight.
