Just to be clear: 'local changes' above should be read as 'manual changes
to /etc/mxallowd.conf'.

One more problem is that the package both ships /etc/mxallowd.conf
as a dpkg conffile and modifies it with maintainer scripts. This
is explicitly forbidden by the policy, see section 10.7.3.

Michael, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. As a compensation, I've
got a proposed patch almost ready and will send it hopefully tonight.

I had a look at your update package on mentors.debian.net, please note
that there's a version discrepancy with the Debian archive (both are
currently at 1.6a-2).
