A 486 is still pretty usable for a server or an X terminal nowadays, so
dropping it would be much more harmful than dropping.
Furthermore, the difference in performance between 486 and 586 is
ridiculous, while the 386->486 move gives appreciable gains.

There is absolutely no reason to drop i486, this is nonsense.
