I sent an email to cts, and discussed some with him. I don't remember the details, and i didn't approach this again when i meet him in oldenbourg. Participating in the kernel-team mostly means moving the kernel-image|patch|whatever packages into the kernel svn archive though, and maybe this was the stopping step. That said, once we move to one kernel package only for all arches (for a given version), more active participation is needed. Individual patchset and config file handling will still be in the hands of the individual arch maintainers.
