I would also turn of Suggested and Recommended Packages in apt before installing any of my own packages, and expect some things to not work because of missing Recommends. That'll make the image quite a bit smaller at the price of having to test more thoroughly.

I stil get triggered by calling software one doesn't like "bloatware".
