When you factor that this will affect just about every tier-1 Debian user (i.e. those who deal with us directly for support), it is extremely important. I do mean unsubbing everyone from every mailing list, if you are going to do this, you do it all the way, so as to archieve a full database refresh. Unsubbing everyone just to find a backscatter problem is madness, the problem won't go away unless it was there by accident, which looks quite unlikely. We could do it to *pause* the backscatter for a small while and clean up the old cruft to lower the mailing list traffic (I'd guess at least 10% of the addresses will never join back). > > * Do a big "spring/fall cleanup" and unsubscribe *everyone*, with due > > advance notice of course. Innocents are not the issue, since it targets everyone on purpose. OTOH, it is rarely worth the trouble as it is a major pain in the neck for everybody. -- "One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them. One disk to bring them all and in the darkness grind them.
