They also announced Framework 13 Pro with Intel Panther Lake CPU lineup [2] and it's an official Ubuntu Certified laptop -- which means it comes with Ubuntu pre-installed and works well with the hardware out of the box based on your configuration [3].Is there any firmware/drivers required for Framework laptops that are missing from Debian, or does everything work out-of-the-box after a normal Debian install with main and non-free-firmware repos, including all the different configurations that Framework provides?
I'll take the example of Framework 12, their most recent laptop release.Framework 12 has a minimum requirement for the kernel version which is Linux 6.1. Their recommended version is 6.13+ and for the best experience, they recommend the latest Linux kernel version. [1]
I don't have the links with me but I remember reading about some person on Reddit trying out a framework 12 with Debian 13 and they said it works well out of the box.
I'm sure someone else might have a Framework in the Debian project who might provide a first hand experience of using it with Debian.
Framework is also open to collaborating with other distros so they might send us some hardware for testing if we all agree on this and reach out to them.
