Since this _is_ a FAQ, perhaps it'd be a good idea to do something about it? What if sysvinit were modified so it included a skeleton /etc/init.d/local script, and the appropriate symlinks for it to be used. Then we just have to tell people they can put local modifications in there. -- see shy jo
